Injury Law
You pay your vehicle insurance every year, but do you know what you are paying for and what limits you have?
Florida No Fault Insurance
No fault insurance extends coverage for persons injured in vehicle related accidents.
Personal Injury Insurance
Florida law requires drivers to carry a minimum of $10,000.00 in personal injury protection (PIP) insurance and $10,000.00 property damage liability insurance
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits will pay 80% of medical bills that are reasonable, necessary and related to your accident as well as 60% of your lost wages, up to $10,000.00, as a result of an accident involving a motor vehicle. PIP insurance may cover the insured, relatives living in the insured person’s home, certain passengers who do not own a vehicle and others who drive the insured is vehicle with his permission.
Bodily Injury Liability Insurance (BI)
Bodily injury liability insurance pays for serious and permanent injuries or death to others when the insured causes a vehicle accident. The insurance company pays for injuries up to the limits of the insured policy and provides legal representation if the insured is sued. BI coverage applies even when the insured is driving someone else’s vehicle. The policy may also cover those who drive the vehicle with the insured’s permission.
It is estimated that 19% of Florida’s licensed drivers do not carry bodily injury insurance. This means that one in every 5 or 6 drivers on the road does not carry sufficient insurance coverage.
Uninsured Motorist Insurance (UM)
Uninsured or under insured motorist insurance pays if you , your passengers or family members are injured by someone “at fault” who is driving without insurance or who has insufficient liability insurance to cover the total damages sustained in the accident. UM applies whether the insured is riding in your vehicle, someone else’s vehicle or is struck by a vehicle as a pedestrian. It also applies in a hit and run accident, known as a “phantom” vehicle accident.
